"Don’t go chasing waterfalls ..."
I heard it. I sang it. Danced to the beat. But honestly? I didn’t listen.
And I’m glad I didn’t.
There’s something about waterfalls that’s always called to me. Not just the beauty or the power—but the movement. The relentless cascade that reminds you that even the hardest edges can be worn smooth with time. The falling that somehow never feels like failure. The surrender that still creates something magnificent.
Growing up, I didn’t see many. Florida is surrounded by water, sure—but waterfalls? That felt like some far-off magic. Something hidden in jungles, tucked behind mountains, flowing strong in places that required real effort to reach. The allure was overwhelming, so naturally, I chased them.
And with every journey, I learned: waterfalls don’t just exist—they reward the pursuit. The steep hikes. The muddy trails. The moments when I questioned my sanity. Then, just when I’m breathless and ready to give up—I hear it. That rush. That roar. That promise. The falls always show up when you trust the journey.
From the misty cascades of Costa Rica to the thunder of Niagara … from hidden jungle gems in the Indonesia, to the sacred flows of Hawai'i… I’ve stood in awe, soaked to the bone, and smiling like a fool every time. But it’s not just about the water. It’s about what it represents.
Freedom. Surrender. Flow.
Sometimes life tells you to play it safe. To stay on the path. To cling to calm waters. But the truth is—I've found more clarity standing beneath a waterfall than in any boardroom or round table. Waterfalls remind me that beauty comes with movement. That falling isn’t failure. That sometimes you have to let go ... over the edge, to find your power.
So no shade to TLC (they were trying to save us from heartbreak), but I’ll keep chasing waterfalls. Not because I ignore the warning, but because I embrace the lesson:
Some falls are worth the risk. Some roads less traveled lead to the most beautiful views. And sometimes, when the world says don’t, your spirit roars louder ... GO!
To every waterfall I’ve found—and the ones I haven’t yet—thank you. For reminding me how to let go. For proving that falling can be beautiful.
And to those still playing the song in your head: Don’t worry—I still bang it too.
